Hand knotted by settled weavers of tribal Luri background, Fars province, SW Iran, of recent make. Size 240x170 cms, 7'11"x5'7".

A newly made rug of superb quality with high knot count and a thick, densely knotted pile of glossy wool which is all dyed with natural colours. We are still pursuing the finest examples of this small production in Iran but possibly not for much longer; prices at this level in Iran rose in 2006 by 40% and so far in 2007 by 25%. A fine rug with great colour, cheap by any comparison to the tonnes of commercial rubbish at often similar prices woven throughout the Orient.

Hand knotted in the village district of Bakshaiesh, Heriz district, NW Iran (Persia), of recent make. Size an unusual 274 x 263 cms, 9' x 8'8".

A very good newly made example from the Heriz district, totally true to its antique models by way of design, colours (all natural), weave and handle. The pile is dense and thick, set to last for generations. It also happens to be almost square which can be a tought one to find on the international carpet market, be it antique or new.

The needlepoint rugs of China are well woven, in a variety of designs borrowed from old European designs - this example echoes early tapestry work.

This carpet is woven in the soumakh technique with a flat woven surface and slightly hairy back where the embroidery yarn ends are left hanging long. This makes soumakhs somewhat more robust and hard wearing than plain flatwoven kilims and also adds a lot of weight to the piece. The design is typical of the Ziegler style, usually seen on pile carpets rather than flat weaves. Note the size which is ideal for a dining table format. Also please note the photograph does it no justice as the colours are much brighter and clearer than they appear to be here.

A very large and most impressive modern "Aubusson" carpet, incredibly true to the 19th C French originals upon which this new production was carefully based. Few examples are available in this large size.
